The Various Types of UV Light

What is Ultraviolet Light?

Ultraviolet light is a type of electromagnetic radiation which makes the black light of posters glow, and it is responsible for the sunburns and summer tans. Electromagnetic radiation comes from the sun and is transmitted in particles or waves at different frequencies and wavelengths. This broad range of wavelengths is called the electromagnetic spectrum. This spectrum is divided into seven regions in order of decreasing the wavelength and increases the frequency and wavelength. The very common designation are visible light, gamma rays, X-rays, ultraviolet, microwaves, radio waves, and infrared (IR). The ultraviolet light will fall in the range of EM spectrum between the X-rays and visible light.

Types of UV light:

UV ray or UV light which is classified into three components are ultraviolet A (UVA), ultraviolet B (UVB), and ultraviolet C (UVC).

Beneficial Effects:

It has several health benefits that no one can moderate to their UV exposure. The primary health benefits of UV exposure are improvement in mood, production of vitamin D, and increased energy.

Vitamin D:

Moderate exposure to UV radiation which is a good source of vitamin D. These vitamins aid in the regulation of calcium metabolism, blood pressure, cell propagation, insulin secretion, and blood pressure. The higher levels of vitamin D have been correlated to the lower rates of stroke, heart disease, and diabetes along with the tendency towards low blood pressure.

Skin Conditions:

Certain skin conditions can be treated with UV radiation. With modern phototherapy, and the successful treatment of dermatitis, atopic, eczema, rickets, and the localized scleroderma, psoriasis, vitiligo, and jaundice are also now possible.

Serotonin:

The creation of serotonin is promoted by vitamin D and its production is directly proportional which is to the body’s exposure to UV radiation. The serotonin level will change affect the behavior and mood. It is the exact effect on a human body that will not entirely know but it is the thought that serotonin provides the sensation of serenity, happiness, and well-being.

Melanin:

Moderate UV exposure increases the amount of melanin, in the skin otherwise, it is called the suntan and the brown pigment. The melanin absorbs both the radiation of UVA and UVB, it will be dissipating as heat. It protects the skin from indirect and direct DNA damage.
